Grateful Album I made for my sister after her aneurysm

My most favourit-ist sister (a neubian Princess as Lou refers to her as) suffered a very close call last year.  I made her an album for Christmas to try and show her how grateful I was to still have her as a part of my life.

I love this picture!

False alarm and tears shed for nothing...............

I now believe that Mr. Man has perfected his selective hearing just like we can!!  What a bird!
We invited friends over for dinner Sunday evening, they rang the doorbell and who went flying to the front door barking?  That's right, Marlo!!!!!

My little man has gone deaf and Vegetable Chowder

Oh what a sad day it is when you notice your furry baby, who you thought was being stubborn and ignoring you, has gone deaf.  It started with an ear infection in his left ear (remember the post about being chewed out by a vet) and I have been putting eardrops in both ears faithfully for two weeks now.
It's like it just happened overnight.  One thing I have noticed is that he isn't afraid to go outside when it is getting dark anymore.  I don't know which is the better trade-off, actually none of them are.

There is this new group called Owl City and they have an awesome album out entitled, "Ocean Eyes", and literally every song on it is great!!  I have the 'Fireflies' song in my Player at the bottom of my blog - love it, love it!

Tonight we are having company over for dinner and yes Lou will be pulling out all the stops on his Big Green Egg (BGE).  We had to go to the BBQ store and purchase 3 bags of BGE charcoal, plus some spices!  He has ribs marinating in rootbeer overnight in the fridge.

Yesterday I made a really yummy Vegetable Chowder, very delish.

Creamy Vegetable Chowder
Moosewood Restaurant recipe

Serves 8 to 10
Yields 11 cups
Total time: 50 minutes

2 cups chopped onions
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon canola or other vegetable oil
2 celery stalks, diced
1 cup peeled and diced carrots (I used whole baby carrots)
1 1/2 cups diced potatoes
3 cups water or Basic Light Vegetable Stock (I used chicken stock)
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (I would leave this out next time)
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 teaspoons salt (Omitted the salt due to the boullion)
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (I used about 1 tbsp.)
1/2 cup green beans, cut into 1-inch pieces (I omitted these)
1/2 cup diced red bell peppers
1 cup diced zucchini (I used broccoli florets instead)
1/2 cup fresh or frozen green peas
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 cups milk
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
2 ounces Neufchatel or cream cheese

In a large soup pot on medium heat, sauté the onions in the butter and oil for 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in the celery, cover, and cook until just soft, stirring occasionally. Add the carrots, potatoes, water or stock, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil; then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer until the vegetables are just tender, about 5 minutes. With a strainer or slotted spoon, remove about 1 1/2 cups of the cooked vegetables and set aside in a blender or food processor.
Add the green beans, bell peppers, and zucchini to the soup pot and cook until the green beans are tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in the peas and parsley, simmer for 2 more minutes, and then remove from the heat. Discard the bay leaf.
Puree the reserved vegetables with the milk and cheeses to make a smooth sauce. Stir the sauce into the soup and gently reheat. Serve hot.

Ever been chewed out?

I'm really upset. As most of you know, Marol is my one and only furry baby and is treated very well. I know that he is treated even better than some human babies, which makes me sad.

Anyway, last night he was scratching at his left ear, crying, shaking his head and pacing. He couldn't get comfortable. I have some Surolan eardrops which contain an antibiotic and is for animals. I put some in his ear hoping this would soothe him some and then again this morning before I went to work.

I called the Vet's office at 5am this morning and left a message asking if I could get an appointment for Marlo as he was in quite a bit of discomfort.

We head there for 1:30pm and Marlo called 'shotgun' which didn't really matter as Lou was still at work!!

The vet comes in and wants to know the symptoms, when I did I first notice his discomfort, etc. So I tell him....last night, scratching, crying, blah, blah, blah and I put some Surolan drops in.

So he takes a swab of both Marlo's ears as they both 'smell funny'. I smelled them and they smell like his shampoo, clean and fresh - nothing yeasty or infectiony. He takes the swabs to the lab and comes back and proceeds to chew me out.

"You shouldn't be using Surolan all willy-nilly to spot treat what could be a possible infection and then stop when the symptoms subside" yadda yadda. "How often do you clean his ears?"

First of all I don't use the drops all willy-nilly, he was genuinely hurting last night - can't give him a children's Tylenol for heavens sake. I knew I was bringing him in today to get checked.......and oh by the way I have never cleaned his ears. I have either been very lucky or it is because I haven't touched his years in his 11 years that he hasn't gotten ear infections.

The vet looked at me and literally chastized me, WTF is up with that? As Marlo would say, "What in the hell?"

Anyway I had a few tears as we drove home. I would never do anything to intentionally hurt my baby. And do you know what the real kicker is????? He prescribed the same damn thing for Marlo's infection that he just finished chewing me out about. How's that for making your day just a bit more...........?

My Husband's 2nd love......

and according to Marlo (the spoiled furry kidlet - he is Lou's #1 love), so I guess that makes me love #3!!
Good thing I know where things really stand otherwise I'd have a complex!!

We went out East for our vacation this year and Lou got to cook on a Big Green Egg while we were there. Let's just say that he fell in love with a big piece of Green ceramic!!

After a little hemming and hawing, Lou decided to purchase the Large Big Green Egg. The food that comes out of it has been amazing so far!!

Here it is all setup waiting to take on the world!

Can't you tell that he's having fun! The eyes are very slitty - must be thinking sensual thoughts of the food that's being cooked in it. Oh the deliciousness!

Look at what's coming out of it!!

Yummm-mmyyy! Scallops! Lobster Tails! Colossal Shrimp!!!

See the look on Sam's face? It says it all as to how scrumptious the food was! Lou's twin and his wife were here, they aren't as adventurous in wanting to cook on new things!!

It's finally clean!

I know, I know!! I have enough product to open my own store! Well, now that it's all cleaned up and organized, I can finally get my butt in gear and start creating once again!

Looking into the room from the doorway

Still in the doorway, turn the camera to the left

Walk down to the window and turn around

Walk through the door and turn right. This is where the table is setup for crafting the night away
